Head Coach of Nigeria’s Olympic team, Samson Siasia, has appointed Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi as captain of the team to the football tournament of the Twenty- sixteen Olympic Games in, Brazil.
Siasia, who made the announcement while meeting with players and other officials, said Mikel Obi’s choice as the team captain was automatic as he was the captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles and also the captain of Team Nigeria to the Games.
Siasia, who explained that it was natural for him to pick Mikel as the team captain, said he was pleased to that the team former captain, Azubuike, who understood the reason why he made Mikel the captain, had handed over the captain’s band to Mikel.
The players unanimously accepted Mikel Obi as their captain and expressed delight at the role he has been playing since he joined the team.
On his part, Mikel, who expressed joy at being made the captain of the Dream Team, said he saw that gesture as an honor that must yield result in Brazil.
Meanwhile, the team will today depart Atlanta, United States of America for Brazil.
