Association of Master Bakers, Kosofe branch, is seeking federal government’s intervention in the astronomical rise in the prices of baking ingredients, particularly flour and sugar.
Chairman of the Association, John Adekuoroye, said this became imperative in view of the harsh economic realities prevalent in the country and its effects on the masses, since bread was considered a stable food for Nigerians.
Adekuoroye said that the price of a bag of flour had increased by almost fifty percent between January and July this year.
According to him, a bag of flour which sold at six thousand, five hundred naira in January now sells for Ten thousand, eight hundred naira .
The Chairman, Association of Master Bakers, appealed to the federal government to reduce the importation tax on sugar and other baking ingredients so that bread would become more affordable for an average Nigerian.
