As Africa’s only survival player in the men’s singles of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri caused one of the biggest upsets after beating Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Chih-Yuan 4-0 to advance to the fourth round of the competition.
Quadri’s progress has made him to equal the fat set by legend Segun Toriola at the Twenty- Zero- Eight Beijing Olympic Games in China when the former African champion made it to the fourth round of the championship.
Amidst huge support from the Brazilian fans, Quadri turned the tide of event when he humbled the number seven ranked player in the world with a four straight win of 11-6, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7,bashing of the Asian star who was a semifinalist at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Quadri who is ranked forty in the world and rated twenty- seven at the Rio Olympic Games made nonsense of the skills of the number five seed of the tournament.
In the fourth round, he is expected to face Germany’s Timo Boll, who is seeded number 10 at Rio later on August 8, 2016.
