Mikel pays $4,000 to free Nigeria Olympic team over unpaid hotel bills in Brazil .

Following the threat to boycott the quarter final match against Denmark, Chelsea FC midfielder, Mikel Obi, has bailed the team out of embrassement as he paid the sum of four thousand dollars for the team’s flight to Salvador.

The team was held to ransom over hotel bills incurred by additional officials as organisers have insisted on a team of twenty- five players, made up of eighteen players and seven officials, and even sports minister Solomon Dalung has ordered this rule be strictly adhered to.

It took the intervention of the Chelsea star, who paid the money before the players and officials were allowed to leave the hotel as the the additional officials are the responsibility of the Nigeria Football Federation, which failed to pay for the players bills.
