As the battle for promotion to the topflight league intensifies, clubs in the Nigeria National League have kicked against the antics of a rival club owned by an Abuja-based top politician.
The NNL is divided into four groups of eight teams each, with the winners of each group advancing to the Nigeria Professional Football League.
However, the battle for promotion by clubs in Group B2, which consists of ABS, Crown, Cofine, J. Atete, Bayelsa United, First Bank, Gateway United and Bendel Insurance, has taken a new dimension, as some clubs say the politician’s outfit are hoping to use the backdoor to gain promotion to the topflight.
A media officer – of one of the aggrieved clubs – who pleaded anonymity, said they got wind of the move by the said club to appeal the decision of an earlier game they failed to honour, which made the Order and Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation to strip them of the three points.
An assistant coach of one of the clubs chasing promotion added that the said club should respect the decision of the disciplinary committee.
