The Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, says inadequate preparation remains a major problem of sports development in Nigeria.
Ahmed, made the statement when the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, visited him in Ilorin.
The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, said Nigeria should place emphasis on sports activities, where the country had core competences and areas of strength in order to win laurels at major competitions.
In his response, the Minister of Sports,Solomon Dalung said the National Youth Games, which Kwara State is hosting, was designed to promote sports development through discovery of talents that could be nurtured for sporting excellence in future.
He added that the event was designed for young Nigerians below seventeen years in order to catch budding talents young and with the hope that Nigeria could halt the recycling of elite athletes, which had been the style in the last two decades.
