Nigeria’s tennis players have joined eight players who were honoured with wild cards by the International Tennis Federation, ITF, to feature in the round of thirty- two as hostilities begin at the sixteenth edition of Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship.

Some of the tennis players who it through to the main draws are, Henry Atseye, Nonso Madueke, Aanu Ayegbusi, Osariemen Airhunmwunde, Edward Christopher Anefu and Ikechukwu Iloputa as qualifying matches were played over the weekend at Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan .

Meanwhile, the likes of Christian Paul, Umaru Balami, Moses Michael, Sylvester Emmanuel, have already been included in the tournament’s main draws

Enrique Lopez – Perez from Spain is the top seed in the men’s category, while Valetini Grammatikopoulou from Greece is the number one seed in the women’s event.

Others are Boy Westerhof from The Netherlands, France’s Calvin Hemerdon and Karim-Mohamed Maamoun from Egypt.

The players, who came from thirty- nine countries of the world, will be fighting for ranking points and fifty thousand dollars prize money in the men and women’s events.

The finals of the first leg will hold on Saturday, 15 October.
