Nigeria will be playing its fiftieth home FIFA World Cup match when Super Eagles engages Algeria in the Russia Twenty- eighteen FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa -Ibom State.
In its previous forty- nine home matches, Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahd won thirty- nine and drew seven, losing three.
Having crashed out of the Nineteen Sixty- two FIFA World Cup final in Chile, courtesy of Ghana’s four- one bashing, Nigeria, lost its first home match to Ghana’s Black Stars in a match that ended two – all draw in Lagos, in Nineteen Sixty.
The last was against the Sihlangu of Swaziland at the Adokiye Amiesieamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, in twenty- fifteen, in the preliminary round for Russia twenty- eighteen, where Nigeria won 2-0 courtesy of goals by Moses Simon and Efe Ambrose
However, the Super Eagles have never lost a World Cup qualifying home match played outside Lagos.
In fact, the only times Nigeria have failed to win a World Cup qualifying home match away from Lagos was against Sudan, in Ibadan in Nineteen Sixty- nine.
