Following a hip injury sustained by Super Eagles and Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, the team’s Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has invited the goalkeeper of Chippa United of South Africa, Daniel Akpeyi to camp for next week’s Russia twenty- eighteen FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Algeria.
Akpeyi, who plays for Chippa United, was in the Flying Eagles team that finished as runners –up at the twenty- zero- five FIFA Under twenty World Cup in the Netherlands.
The former junior international, who was also a member of Nigeria’s Olympic team that won a bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games, is a direct replacement for Carl Ikeme, whose English club Wolverhampton Wanderers wrote to the Nigeria Football Federation that he would be unavailable as a result of injury.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will on Saturday, twelve of this month take on the Fennecs of Algeria, at the Godswill Akapbio Stadium, Uyo,Akwa Ibom State.
