England interim boss, Gareth Southgate, has defended Manchester United’s Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw after criticism from their club manager, Jose Mourinho.
The United boss who questioned the pair for missing Sunday’s three- one Premier League win at Swansea, said Samalling and Shaw had to do anything for the team to achieve success.
Smalling has a foot injury, while Shaw played in United’s Europa League defeat by Fenerbahce on Thursday.
Shaw and Smalling have played with pain-killing injections this season and there are reports that former Southampton full-back Shaw is “baffled” by Mourinho’s criticism.
