Cameroon defeat Egypt 2-0

Hosts Cameroon opened the twenty-sixteen women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a two- nil victory over Egypt in a match which was watched by Cameroon’s President Paul Biya and national football legend, Samuel Eto’o.

Goals from Aboudi Onguene and captain Manie Chrisitine gave the Indomitable Lionesses a winning start to its campaign.

In the late match in Yaounde, Zimbabwe held South Africa to a barren draw in the second Group A fixture.

Cameroon piled on the pressure early on against Egypt but failed to make their final balls into the area count, frequently finding their opponents’ defence.

The result put Cameroon top of Group A after South Africa and Zimbabwe played out a goalless draw in the late match on Saturday.
