Osinbajo says merit, not quota, makes nations great.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has advocated that conferment of award should be based on merit and only to those that deserve it.

The Vice President, who said this in Abuja, at the conferment of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) on two professors, Omowunmi Sadiq, an environmental scientist, and Tanure Ojaide, a poet and literary critic, said quota system was detrimental to the progress of any society.

According to him, the nation had misplaced quota over merit and had not help,thus called on leaders to commit themselves to a country run on merit, integrity, hard work, justice and patriotism.

The vice president noted that the award recipients demonstrated that Nigeria was blessed with tremendous talents and of world class.
