Sports minister pledges support for life-saving project.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has pledged support for the Save the Lives Sports Project aimed at preventing premature deaths of sportsmen and women.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony of the Save the Lives Charity Golf Tournament in Abuja, Dalung said the project was a worthy innovation to assist the government in sponsoring and developing sports.

The minister, who was represented by the Deputy Director of Grassroots Department, Bode Durotoye, said the innovation came at a good time to support government effort in sponsoring sports.

Dalung said the two areas of the project that the ministry was interested in were the grassroots sports festival, which would help to develop sports and the welfare of aging athletes.

Chairman of the grassroots sports festival and the initiator of the project, Peter Elosia, said the proceeds from the tournament would go to the Save the Lives Project for Sports.
