FC IfeanyiUbah, has emerged the winners of twenty- sixteen men’s Federation Cup competition after a five- four penalty shoot –out defeat of Nasarawa United in a match played at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
Both teams played a barren draw in regulation time at the finale watched by Nasarawa State Governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura, Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu and the full compliment of the Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation,NFF.
In the spot-kicks, Seun Sogbeso, whose goal from the penalty spot steered Nasarawa United to the final at the expense of Enyimba FC in Ibadan, saw his kick saved by Warriors’ goalkeeper, Uche Okafor to hand the trophy to the boys from Nnewi.
In the women’s final, Rafiat Sule put Bayelsa Queens ahead but Rivers Angels equalized through a well –taken free kick by Osinachi Ohale.
The Angels won the shoot –out 5-3 to emerge champions.
Meanwhile, the technical adviser of FC IfeanyiUbah, Mitko Dobrev, is proud of his players feat of winning the Federation Cup.
The Anambra Warriors beat Nasarawa United five- four through spot-kicks after paying a barren draw in regulation time to win the title for the first time.
The Bulgarian, who has handled Ocean Boys and Heartland,said his players put up a good fight in the match which paved the way for the team to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
